Terms of use and Liminal licence
The short version: MasterScope and Liminal are free to use, including on paid and commercial music. Don't resell or redistribute them. They're guidance and tools, not a guarantee, so always trust your ears and keep backups.
Last updated 28 October 2026.
1. Who we are
MasterScope (masterscope.gwstudio.com.au) and the Liminal plug-in are made by GW Studio ("we", "us"). By using the website or installing Liminal you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use them.
2. Using the MasterScope website
- The analyser is free to use for your own music and for music you work on for clients.
- Your audio stays on your computer. Files are analysed inside your browser and are never uploaded to us. You keep every right to your music. See Privacy for what the site stores.
- Don't try to disrupt the site, scrape it in bulk, or copy its code, design or text to make a competing service.
3. Measurements and advice are guidance
MasterScope and Liminal measure loudness and peaks to published standards (ITU-R BS.1770 and EBU R128) and estimate what streaming services and their encoders will do. Streaming services change their processing without notice and don't publish every detail, so we can't promise how any service will treat your track, or that a track will be accepted, sound a particular way, or perform well. Suggestions are starting points; the final decision on how your music sounds is yours.
4. The Learn guide and site content
The Learn guide, screenshots, text and design are © 2026 MasterScope. You're welcome to link to any page and quote short passages with a link back. Please don't republish whole chapters or images without permission.
5. Liminal licence
Liminal is licensed, not sold. We grant you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to:
- install and use Liminal on as many of your own computers as you like;
- use it on any project, including commercial releases and paid client work. You owe us nothing for music you make with it, and you don't need to credit us (though we'd love it if you did).
You may not:
- sell, rent, lend or sublicense Liminal, or bundle it with something you sell;
- share the installer or plug-in files, or host them anywhere else. Point people to masterscope.gwstudio.com.au/liminal so they always get the current, genuine version;
- modify, decompile or reverse engineer it, except where the law says you're allowed to;
- remove or change its name, credits or licence notices.
Liminal includes open-source components (JUCE, the VST3 SDK, Opus, libogg and libvorbis) used under their own licences, which are listed in the plug-in's About box (ⓘ). Those licences apply to those components. VST is a trademark of Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH.
Liminal doesn't collect data and doesn't connect to the internet (the Support link in its About box just opens this website). It saves only the files you ask it to save. Updates are optional: download a new version from the Liminal page when you want it.
6. Sponsors and links
Sponsored links and links to other sites go to businesses we don't control. Anything you buy or sign up for there is between you and them.
7. No warranty
The website and Liminal are provided free and "as is". We work hard to make them accurate and reliable, but to the extent the law allows, we make no promises that they'll be error-free, always available, or suitable for any particular purpose. Plug-ins run inside your DAW: save your work and keep backups of your sessions and masters.
8. Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any loss or damage from using or being unable to use MasterScope or Liminal, including lost or damaged audio, sessions or data, missed release dates, or lost income.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't be excluded. Where our liability can be limited but not excluded, it's limited to supplying the service again.
9. Changes
We may update these terms as MasterScope and Liminal grow. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the site or plug-in after a change means you accept the new terms. We may also change, pause or stop any part of the service.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts of New South Wales have jurisdiction.
11. Contact
Questions about these terms or licensing (for example, to include Liminal in a course or bundle): email masterscope@gwstudio.com.au.
